We in DigiDeutsch strongly believe in the power of languages. We believe that foreign languages are life-changing.

The advantages of learning a foreign language are more or less known to everyone. Especially parents have been repeatedly reminded of the benefits of a second language for their kid. Most of the times people talk about the importance of foreign languages for finding a job and having a great future. The journey of learning a foreign language is however more colourful than this and brings so many more subtle benefits with it. When you learn a language, you learn a different way to look at life!

  1. Travel a lot

When someone speaks one or more foreign languages, travelling becomes so much easier and fun! Of course anyone can travel without having to know the language of the country one is visiting, but being able to speak in many languages and interact with the locals, gives travelling a whole new dimension. New friendships can occur, a better understanding of the different cultures, interesting gastronomic experiences. It just changes your perception of reality.

  1. Improves your mother tongue

Like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe used to say “Those who know nothing of foreign languages know nothing of their own.” Learning a foreign language helps people become more aware of the language system of their mother tongue and become better in it. It can often be so enlightening, when you learn something new in the foreign language and understand the logic behind something similar in your native language.

  1. A more analytical mind and cognitive benefits

This should be very helpful for parents, especially when they are about to make a decision about their children΄s education. Bilinguals tend to be more creative and flexible. They seem to be more open-minded. They even have an increased cognitive ability and improved health. Researches have shown that children, who grow up speaking more than on language, increase the amount of neural pathways in the brain. In addition switching between languages develops multi-tasking and problem solving skills.

  1. Confidence and self- esteem

Learning a new language brings a precious sense of achievement, which can lead to increased self-esteem as well.

  1. Better decision makers

Bilinguals have more analytical minds, they are more rational, which has as a result, that they are better in decision making, than people, who only speak one language.

  1. The more languages you speak the more lives you live.

There isn’t much to be said, it is as simple as that. Every language opens a new door in life.
